How does two-factor authentication (2FA) work?
When you log in to Atlanto for the first time, you will be asked if you want to use two-factor authentication (2FA). 2FA is about securing access to your Atlanto account with a second device, making Atlanto even more safe.
How does two-factor authentication work in Atlanto?
As already mentioned, you will be asked to use 2FA when you log in for the first time. If you accept, you will be taken to the following picture:
In the first step, you will also be recommended apps to use. If you have downloaded one of the apps, you can scan the QR code or enter the code marked in black in your app. If you enter the code successfully, the app will generate another code for you to enter on the Atlanto platform. After that, ten recovery codes are generated, which you must save. After clicking on “Go to portal” you will find yourself back in your Atlanto account.
What are Recovery Codes?
If you cannot access the device with the authentication app, simply enter one of the recovery codes that you received at the beginning. You can generate new recovery codes later under “Settings”. You can also deactivate 2FA or add another authentication app.
Do I now have to enter a verification code every time I log in?
As soon as you log in again, you will be asked whether this device should be recognised. This has the advantage that you do not have to use your 2FA app every time you log in. However, as soon as you want to log in from a new device, you will be asked again to enter a verification code from the authentication app.
What if I initially refused but now want to use the 2FA anyway?
There are three ways to activate the 2FA.
1. After about one month Atlanto will ask you again if you want to use the 2FA.
2. If you delete the cookies in your browser settings, the request will be generated again the next time you log in.
3. Go to “My Profile” once you have logged in.
Then select the menu item “Two-factor authentication (2FA)”, where you can add a new authentication app and thus activate 2FA.
