Foreign Currencies

Atlanto offers the option of maintaining accounts in foreign currencies. However, the annual financial statements can only be prepared in CHF.

The following FAQ deals with an example of a supplier invoice for EUR 1,000 that is paid from a EUR bank account.

As you can see in the screenshot, the amount of EUR 1,000 is automatically converted into CHF 943.50 at the current daily exchange rate.

You will find the posting in EUR in the journal:

Entries on the account statement are always made in CHF:

The invoice is paid after 20 days. In the meantime, the EUR exchange rate has changed. In our example, the exchange rate is now lower. The EUR 1,000 is now only worth CHF 940.10. This means that a currency gain of CHF 3.40 has been realised. This can be posted to the currency gain account.

In the journal, you can find postings in the relevant currencies:

Depending on the currency in which the account sheet is displayed, you will now see the following image:

At the end of the year, you now have a balance of EUR 1,000 in your bank account. Since the annual financial statements are in CHF, this balance must be valued. You can do this as part of the annual financial statements. Enter the exchange rate at which Atlanto should value the balance in EUR. The entries are made automatically.
